Planar thermoelectric generator based on metal-oxide nanowires for powering autonomous microsystems
نویسندگان
چکیده
A planar ThermoElectric Generator (TEG) containing five thermocouples based on nanostructured metal-oxide elements wired electrically in series and thermally in parallel has been designed and fabricated. The thermoelectric elements consist of ZnO (n-type) and CuO (p-type) bundles of quasi-monodimensional nanowires deposited utilizing shadow masks. The TEG has been experimentally characterized, confirming feasibility of fabricating planar thermoelectric devices based on metal-oxide nanowires with the future aim to powering portable electronics and autonomous sensors and microsystems. © 2012 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Integration of ZnO and CuO nanowires into a thermoelectric module
Zinc oxide (ZnO, n-type) and copper oxide (CuO, p-type) nanowires have been synthesized and preliminarily investigated as innovative materials for the fabrication of a proof-of-concept thermoelectric device. The Seebeck coefficients, electrical conductivity and thermoelectric power factors (TPF) of both semiconductor materials have been determined independently using a custom experimental set-u...

We have converted nanoscale mechanical energy into electrical energy by means of piezoelectric zinc oxide nanowire (NW) arrays. The aligned NWs are deflected with a conductive atomic force microscope tip in contact mode. The coupling of piezoelectric and semiconducting properties in zinc oxide creates a strain field and charge separation across the NW as a result of its bending. The rectifying ...
متن کاملHuman Body Heat Energy Harvesting Using Flexible Thermoelectric Generator for Autonomous Microsystems
ABSTRACT This paper reports on a thermoelectric generator (TEG) used for converting human body heat energy to electrical energy. The proposed TEG was composed of a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate and thermocouples. The use of PDMS provides flexibility to the TEG and low thermal conductivity that helps minimize losses in the effective heat flowing through the thermocouples. The proposed TE...
متن کاملPower Management Electronics for Thermoelectric Energy Harvesting Systems
The presented paper gives an overview of basic principles and recent trends in power management electronics for thermoelectric energy harvesting. Energy harvesting systems are a modern way how to feed the autonomous devices on-site using ambient energy. The ambient energy in the case of thermoelectric generators is represented by temperature gradients. Different temperatures are applied to the ...

The large thermal conductivity of bulk complex metal oxides such as SrTiO(3), NaCo(2)O(4), and Ca(3)Co(4)O(9) has set a barrier for the improvement of thermoelectric figure of merit and the applications of these materials in high temperature (≥1000 K) thermoelectric energy harvesting and solid-state cooling. Here, we present a self-templated synthesis approach to grow ultrathin SrTiO(3) nanowir...
